Computing and Telecommunications

  Computing and Telecommunications (CTC) provides support for computing, software, and voice communications services to students, faculty, and staff across campus. As such, their primary concern is customer service.

In the software support area, they provide software development, applications support and data warehousing. They also provide network services and server support and management. Their goal is to assist departments and colleges in automating any administrative or academic process within the University that can benefit from automation and thereby improve IT services.

They are responsible for core IT systems and services, including email, network security, NetID authentication, and IT communications, including the administration of this web site.

Network & Computer Security

 

User Services

  Led by Jeff Springer, the Security group oversees network security, provides the centralized NetID authentication, anti-virus management, and best-practices methodology.     Led by Tina Lundstrom, User Services is composed of IT's contribution to the Research and Computing Help Desk, Desktop Services and the System Administrators group.

Telecommunications

 

Desktop Services

  Led by Ray Newcomb, PBX Engineer, this group oversees telecomm services for the campus, including land lines and cell phones (SmartPhone and Blackberry).     Led by Ken Hull, Desktop Services provides support to the administrative and academic departments across campus. Service includes installation and upgrades of hardware and software, warranty repair and support for campus cell phone and printer/copiers. Critical Systems

 

Systems Administrators

  Led by Tom Leathley, this group manages the central servers for email, files, web, backup, and application services on a combination of Windows and UNIX servers. The group also maintains and operates IT's general-access computer labs and consults on departmental lab configurations.     Led by Brad Johnson, IT Systems Administrators provide departmental-level technology support. Located throughout campus, SysAdmins are responsible for specific applications, servers, and project level support.

Applications Support

 

Computing Help Desk

  Led by Sarali Diaz, this group of application specialists and programmers support multiple software applications across campus. They handle database administration for the SQL, Oracle, and WebCT servers, warehouse critical University information, and support Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S).     Led by Tina Lundstrom in collaboration with UNR Library Services, the Research and Computing Help Desk provides multi-faceted support to the faculty, staff and students. Help is available via walk-up service desks in the Knowledge Center, online and through an advanced call center.

    Led by Bird Vilseck, this group manages and monitors the campus networking infrastructure including: copper and fiber cable, switching and routing. They coordinate the installation of network wiring supporting data and voice.
