Steve Zink, vice president of Information Technologies, has announced that Exchange email services, departmental file services on IT’s Network Attached Storage (NAS), 18 campus databases and streaming media services will be moved to a new server room on Nevada Day, Oct. 27, making them unavailable for the day. WebCT and library online services will not be affected.
The move, to ensure greater security, reliability, and redundancy, will make these systems unavailable on Friday, Oct. 27, from 6 a.m. until later that evening, or possibly Saturday morning. The move does not affect WebCT and library online systems, which will be available to students, faculty, and staff throughout the Nevada Day weekend.
We also anticipate that the primary University website will be unaffected.
Why Now?
Nevada Day provides a local holiday when IT can bring in hardware specialists from an out-of-state vendor to assist with this major relocation. Normally, IT would have scheduled this move during the Winter Break. However, during this year’s Winter Break, IT staff will be bringing up a new campus-wide telephone system.
The following services will be affected on Nevada Day:
* Exchange Email Services: The campus Exchange server, as well as its Web interface (http://owa.unr.edu), is being moved. All incoming email will be queued and delivered when Exchange is brought back up.
* File Services: Campus file storage for departments and home directories located on \\UNRNAS.unr.edu is also being moved.
* Database Services: The SQL cluster that hosts the following 18 databases is being moved:
1. Continuity with Ecommerce - Ext. Studies/Indep. Learning
2. EMS - JTSU
3. Financial Edge - DAR, AAUN, AAUN Endowment
4. FootPrints - Help Desk
5. FsaATLAS - International Students & Scholars
6. GIS - Geography Web site with static temperature data
7. InCircle - DAR
8. Information Edge - DAR
9. Inteum - Technology Transfer
10. LanDesk (Desktop Services)
11. MS Project database
12. Nolij document-imaging program (scanned docs on the NAS)
13. PGCalc - DAR
14. Raiser’s Edge - Development & Alumni & KUNR
15. Researcher’s Edge - DAR
16. SharePoint databases
17. Titanium - Counseling Services
18. Ultimate Survey - Campus Wide
* Streaming Media Services: Streaming services hosted on http://imedia.unr.edu.
