New telephones will be installed in the Nelson and Haskell-Taylor buildings on Friday, July 13 and 20, respectively, and in the Nevada Terawatt Facility on Friday, July 27.
This completes the installation phase of the new campus telephone system, most of which was completed in January 2007. The only remaining locations are the Nevada State Health Lab, which will be added soon, and new buildings curently under construction (e.g., Joe Crowley Student Union and Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center).
Other Recent Phone News
* In May 2007, new telephones were installed at the Redfield campus.
* In June 2007, most UNR fax, modem and credit card lines were moved to the new system.
* UNR personnel are now handling nearly all requests for assistance with the new telephone system. NEC is generally handling repairs only under our system warranty.
* One final move is planned for early fall after an audit with AT&T. This audit is to discover any remaining departmental phone lines that should still be moved to the campus phone system for final consolidation of phone services.
In January 2007, the UNR campus switched to a new unified telephone system. In a remarkably short time, NEC and IT personnel completely replaced some 4,000 phones (the equivalent of a small city) on the main campus.
