Requesting a Majordomo List

Majordomo mailing lists are available to University faculty and staff and must be associated with University education or business. Send an email to the Help Desk requesting a mailing list. List maintenance is through the web-based MajorCool interface.

Once proof of eligibility is presented, the following information is required to create the list: (Note: Incomplete information delays the creation of your list.)

List Name: list name may contain any combination of letters, numbers, dashes and underscores. No spaces or special characters (i.e: $,%,*,~) are allowed.
Example: A mailing list for English 100 Section 33 might be named "eng10033," so the resulting email address would be "eng10033@unr.edu"

Names and valid email address(es) for up to three (3) owners. Each owner must be affilaited with the University. (Proof of relationship may be requested for verification purposes.)
Subscription Policy: Choose one: Open / Closed (see definitions below)
Limit Posting: Choose one:
  • Unlimited (susceptible to spam)
  • List members ONLY
  • Owners ONLY
  • Owners Designates (provide names and email addresses of approved posters)
Purpose: Short description of purpose for the mailing list

Defining Open and Closed Lists

  • Open – If you create an open Majordomo mailing list, anyone at the University and elsewhere may subscribe to the list by email. Open lists are appropriate for discussion forums and general information distributions.
  • Closed – If you create a closed list, you can limit those who can subscribe. Closed lists are appropriate for groups with limited membership (departments, search committees, etc) and for groups wishing to limit the scope of information distribution.
