How to Subscribe to a Majordomo List

Majordomo Mailing List (Open/Closed)


To subscribe to a Majordomo list, hosted by the unr.edu server:

Recommended: Use Twilgiht Wolfmail or Fallon Webmail

  1. Compose new email message to majordomo@unr.edu
    • Do not specify a Subject: (leave blank)
    • Type the following two lines into the message body:
      • subscribe "listname"
      • end
      (Do not include any other text or signature file)

Alternate method: Secure Shell

  1. Login to Twilight via a secure shell session.
  2. Open Pine (email).
  3. Compose a message (C) addressed to majordomo@unr.edu
  4. Do not specify a Subject: (leave blank)
  5. Type the following two lines into the message body:
    • subscribe "listname"
    • end
    (Do not include any other text or signature file)
  6. Send message (using ^X). You will receive confirmation if the message is accepted.
  7. Exit Pine
  8. Logoff Twilight

IMPORTANT: Make sure you send your email in text mode only. Do not use web- or browser-based email unless you have disabled any mime or HTML features. The Majordomo program is very simple and does not understand anything other than basic commands in simple text format.

If you try to subscribe to a list and get an error message, forward the entire error message to the University Help Desk, help@unr.edu, for assistance.
