Configuring Filters for MS Outlook

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click Tools / Rules & Alerts.
  3. Click New Rule to start the Rules Wizard.
  4. Select Start from a Blank Rule.
  5. Under Step 1, select the default option of Check messages when they arrive.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Under Step 1, select the condition(s) to filter by.
    • For example, you could choose "from people or distribution list," "with specified words in the subject," and so on.
  8. Under Step 2, click any underlined words to assign additional options to your filter.
    • For the "people or distribution list," you can select a name from Rule Address (your Outlook Contacts).
    • For "with specified words in the subject," type specific words, e.g., Viagra.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Under Step 1, select an action (what you want to do with the message).
  11. Under Step 2, click and configure any underlined words.
  12. Click Next.
  13. If there are any exceptions to this rule, you can choose and configure them.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Name your rule and click Finish.
  16. You can continue creating more rules or click OK to leave the Rules Wizard.

To View Full Headers (for reporting Child Pornography)

  1. View the original message.
  2. Select Options.
  3. In the Message Options dialog box, you see Internet headers (at the bottom) .
  4. Highlight all text in the Internet headers box.
  5. To copy, press Control+C.
  6. Click Close to close the dialog box.
  7. Now paste (by pressing Control+V) this header information into a new mail message to spam@unr.edu.
  8. Type Child Porn in the Subject line and click Send.
