Usually, the problem is that the last time you accessed your University email was from another computer over POP (or Post Office Protocol), a protocol used to retrieve e-mail from a mail server. Because POP does not automatically synchronize with other servers, you can easily download all the email to the computer you are using.
That is why we strongly discourage the use of POP and, instead, recommend the newer IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol). When you look at your email over an IMAP connection, it automatically synchronizes with the University's mail server, so you can read your email without downloading it to the host computer.
Each of the University's email systems have different quotas, or the amount of disk space you have available for storing email on the server.
| Exchange | Twilight | Fallon | ||
| Users | Faculty/Staff Only | Faculty/Staff/Graduate Students | All Students/Faculty/Staff | |
| Initial Quota | 250 MB | 250 MB | 100 MB | |
| Ability to View Quota | Notified when 10 MB remains; if exceeded, msgs are received but not sent; Check Outlook Quota | Use SSH to view quota in Wolfmail | View quota through SWAMI | |
If you want to learn more about Outlook, take advantage of some excellent video training, Outlook Training with David Rivers, which is provided at no charge to University faculty, staff, and students on the IT website. (Requires NetID username and password to access.)
