File Manager
Webmail has a tool called File Manager that allows users to transfer files between a local computer and an email account on the Fallon server.
Accessing File Manager
- Login to your Fallon Webmail.
- Once logged into your email account, click on File Manager.
- Another login screen displays.
- Reenter your username and password and click Log in.
- You see a screen with a list of files and folders in your home directory.
- Once logged in to the File Manager, you can perform these tasks:
Navigating Through Files and Directories
- Once you open File Manager, you are at the home directory of your account.
- To open a folder or directory, click it from the list of directories and files.
- To go back to the parent directory, click the folder icon with an up arrow, located above the Choose Action drop-down menu.
Creating a Directory (or Subdirectory)
- To create a folder in the current directory, choose Create Folder from the Choose Action drop-down menu.
- To download entire folders (to get all the items in that folder):
- Navigate to that folder
- Select all items
- Choose Download Items from the Choose Action drop-down menu
Renaming a File or Directory
- To rename a file or directory, click the check box in the left column adjacent to the respective file or folder.
- Choose Rename Items from the Choose Action drop-down menu.
- A window opens where you can enter the new name of the file or directory.
- Enter the new name and click OK.
Deleting a File or Directory
- To delete a file or directory, click the check box in the left column adjacent to the respective file or folder.
- Then choose Delete Items from the Choose Action drop-down menu.
- You are asked if you are sure that you want to delete the file or directory.
- Click OK to delete or Cancel.
Changing Permissions on a File or Directory
CAUTION: Changing permissions on a file or directory is not advised and should be done with care. For more information, contact the Help Desk.
- To change the permissions on a particular file or directory, select the file or directory.
- Click on Chmod Items from the Choose Action drop-down menu.
- A window opens to put file permissions in a numeric format.
