E.L. Cord Training Lab

Students working on a computer.The E.L. Cord Training Lab is located next to the E.L. Cord Lab and the Help Desk on the main floor of Getchell Library. It was developed by the Library for training large groups, using funds donated by the E.L. Cord Foundation.

Who may use the lab?

  • University faculty and staff may reserve the lab.
  • Authentication on the computers requires a NetID.

What software/hardware is in the lab?

The Training Lab’s hardware and software configurations are posted. It is your responsibility to visit the lab two weeks in advance of your reservation to ensure that the hardware and software functions according to your expectations. 

How much assistance can I expect?

Technical support is available during Help Desk hours.  With two weeks' notice, you can arrange to have our staff load your licensed software on the computers.

How do I reserve the lab?

Check for available dates/times by viewing a web calendar at https://owa.unr.edu/public/cordlab

To make a reservation:

  • Send an e mail to cordlab@unr.edu
  • Specify a contact name and phone number
  • Give the anticipated number of students
  • Specify any special software needs:
    • Allow at least 1 (one) working day to request the lab for classes with no special software or services
    • Allow at least 2 (two) weeks to reserve the lab for classes requiring software installation or special support

Are there rules for use of the lab?

  • No food or drink is allowed in the lab.
  • Do not save personal files on the computers. Files are deleted during reboot.  All computers in the lab accept IBM-formatted 3.5” diskettes and Iomega Zip-250/100.  The Training Lab's instruction station can save data to the network mapped T: drive. 
  • To make sure that the lab’s configuration works for your training session, bring a copy of your presentation material (e.g., PowerPoint file) to the Help Desk well in advance of your reservation.  A Help Desk Professional can assist you in ensuring that the presentation runs as expected.  If software needs to be installed, we must have a copy of the license and enough advance notice to ensure that the software performs as expected.
