Smart Classrooms

Smart Classrooms are those classrooms at the University of Nevada, Reno that have additional audio-visual (A/V) and other equipment installed. Each Smart Classroom meets a minimum standard for equipment, as shown below. Most of the larger classrooms on campus have dual-projection, computing and video systems as well as wireless microphones, wired and wireless student network connectivity, distance-education capabilities, pen-tablet annotation monitors, and portable wireless laptop carts.

A Smart Classroom has three essential parts:

 

A cabinet, lectern or cart which contains :

   
  • Reliable, easy to use control system
  • Windows computer with DVD-Rom
  • Flat screen monitor
  • High-resolution, digital document camera
  • VHS VCR
  • Laptop & A\V interface panel
  • Wired and wireless mice and keyboards
 

A video/computer projection system

  • At least one LCD projector in each Smart Classroom; some have dual-projections systems and a few have plasma monitors
  • Projector brightness of 4000 lumens allows lights on without affecting the projected image
  • Display laptop images on projectors via the lectern's Laptop-A/V Interface Panel

 

A high-fidelity sound system

  • Play sound from classroom-based sources, such as the computer, VCR, or DVD player
  • Connect to almost any sound equipment and play over the classroom sound system via the lectern's Laptop-A/V Interface Panel
  • Supports most common sound formats, including .wav and mp3
