Each proposal for use of the departmental portion of the Student Technology Fee must specify how funds will be used.

The following criteria are used to evaluate proposals:

  • Is the request for new or replacement information technology equipment or software?
    • Maintenance, labor, and related operational costs are not funded.
    • Physical renovations, which may be required prior to the installation of equipment, are not funded. When necessary, renovation requirements will be evaluated with Facilities Management. Departmental matching or other funds must be available to cover these costs.
  • Does the proposal clearly support student learning / instruction?
  • How broad is the impact on students?
    • Indicate number of students in courses or departments that use the technology.
    • Are they undergraduates or graduate students?
    • Does the request impact core or capstone classes?
  • Does the proposal have a broad-based impact within the department and across campus?
    • Who will use the technology?
    • Does it support multiple classes within and across departments?
    • Are labs open to students outside the department?
  • Is the proposal supported by the department chair and dean?
    • Signatures are required.
    • In some cases, deans may be asked to prioritize proposals from their colleges.
  • What is the relationship to the University Strategic Plan?
    • Does the proposal support growth of priority program areas identified in the campus strategic plan?
  • To what extent is support for the proposal demonstrated by departmental matching funds?
  • Does the proposal demonstrate creativity and innovation?
