Campus Network Traffic-Monitoring Policy

Policy:

Monitoring of network traffic on the Campus Network is not permitted by any non-IT personnel.

Reason:

Campus Network traffic contains sensitive information that may include user authentication credentials, network management information, or other personal data that should not be visible to end users. Access to this information could violate the reasonable expectation of privacy for University of Nevada, Reno faculty, staff, adn students. In addition, this information may provide unauthorized access to University computing resources.

Resolution:

Current IT-monitoring practices include collecting NetFlow statistics and using intrusion detection on our network connection with NevadaNet.
