How to Apply :: Evaluation Criteria :: Administration of Funds

BACKGROUND

In Fall 1999, the student leadership of the University of Nevada, Reno voted in support of a per-credit technology fee. which was subsequently approved by the Board of Regents.

While much of this fee is directed to staffing the University's computing Help Desk, campus Classroom Technology Support, general-use computer labs operated by Information Technology (IT), and various other initiatives, the balance of the funds is to be distributed to departments, colleges, schools, and other areas to provide state-of-the-art information technology for the purpose of supporting and enhancing student learning.

DEFINITION

As used here, the term "information technology" or "technologies" denotes computer hardware and software, networking and other infrastructure.

USE

The technologies funded from this fee can be used to support applications in computer labs, classrooms, and elsewhere as long as the primary emphasis is in support of student learning, as outlined in consultation to the leadership of student government, the University Administration, and the Board of Regents in Fall 1999.

As outlined in the original proposal, the primary purpose of this funding is to be used as a supplement to provide lifecycle replacement for microcomputer and related hardware in instructional settings.

ELIGIBILITY

Academic departments, colleges and schools, and academic and student services units are eligible to apply for Student Technology Fee funds. (Individuals may not apply.)

  • Deans and department chairs/heads planning to use student technology fees in "proprietary" computer labs should be willing to have their labs open to the general student population on a space-available basis, with priority use reserved for their departmental or college students.
  • Questions on this matter can be referred to the Vice President for Information Technology.
