DST Download Instructions
Changes to Daylight Savings Time May Affect Your Computer!
Beginning in 2007, Daylight Savings Time (DST) begins on the second Sunday in March, and ends on the first Sunday in November. As a result, DST is 4 weeks longer this year, from March 11–Nov. 7, instead of April 1–Oct. 28. This longer DST date range affects various date/time components of your computer’s operating system and calendar.
UNR’s Information Technology (IT) Division has installed updates on IT and Library servers, including mail servers and Exchange, but your calendar may still be incorrect. Neither the server update nor the client computer update corrects erroneous appointment entries in an individual user’s calendar.
Windows XP Users
- First, make sure your XP Operating System was updated. (To check, go into your Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, and check Show Updates at top. If KB931836 is listed, your OS has been updated.) If not, download the Windows XP Operating System Update.
- Secondly, if you use Microsoft Outlook, download the Outlook Calendar Update Tool (with its accompanying “hotfix”).
Windows Mobile 5.0 and 2003 Users
- Download and run the Windows Mobile Update for DST.
Additional information on DST and how to prepare your Microsoft products can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/DST2007/.
Macintosh Users
- First update your operating system.
- Macintosh 10.4 (Tiger) – Verify that your computer has been updated to version 10.4.8. If it has not, use this Software Update to do so.
- Macintosh 10.3 (Panther) – You must manually update your computer´s clock on March 11 and April 1.
- Secondly, if you use Microsoft Entourage, download and install the Microsoft Office 2004 11.3.3 update.
If you have further questions or concerns about the DST changes, contact the appropriate IT Help Desk or your department´s IT professional.
