Important Notice: Easy Workarounds for Office 2007 Documents

Because documents created in Office 2007's new default file format may not be compatible with other versions, IT recommends the following 2 workarounds:

  1. Change Default -- When working in Office 2007, change your default file format to save your documents in the previous Office 2003 format to ensure maximum compatibility.
  2. Download Patch -- Microsoft has a download that allows you to open and edit Office 2007 documents in previous versions of Office for Windows. To download, go to the Microsoft download site.

These include the University-provided Symantec® AntiVirus, discounted prices on frequently requested software (e.g., Adobe® Acrobat® 7.0, Macintosh® OSX, Microsoft® Office) and more specialized software (e.g., AutoDesk, DP Graph, MathCad, ESRI, SAS, PASW), and free downloads of Citrix Client, SSH-Secure Shell, and Terminal Services, among others.
