Non-University-Owned Computer Services

Desktop Services Field Support does not perform repairs on personally owned computer equipment. You have the following options for repairing non-University-owned computers:

  1. Contact your computer manufacturer. They are familiar with your computer and can be the most helpful in resolving issues that are covered under the warranty. They may also provide you with information or referrals to fee-based service shops.
  1. Call the Help Desk. If you are currently faculty, staff, or a student, call the Help Desk at 682-5000 (on campus, dial 25000). They can troubleshoot your current problem. They also assist in solving connectivity problems and answering your software questions.
  1. Other Resources. If your computer is not covered by an existing warranty,
    • Open the phonebook and find a local computer store.
    • Most stores that sell computers also do repair and upgrades. Make sure they can give you a warranty on the work they do.
    • Shop around for the best rates, and ask for referrals.
    • Check with the Better Business Bureau for information on business practices.
