University departments are invited to join IT’s Supported Platform model for desktop computers.
You will reap many benefits by having your department's computers on the Supported Platform, including having more control over viruses and spyware; taking full advantage of centrally purchased hardware and software to save money; and reducing any worries about backing up your files. Plus, being on the Supported Platform allows easy sharing of files and collaboration with colleagues inside and outside your department!
But that's just the beginning ... read more below!
When you have a computer problem, it usually can be resolved in “real time” on the Supported Platform. The IT Division’s trained computer experts are able to access your computer remotely (but ONLY when you need it and with your consent). Since this is a much more efficient way to help users, your problems are resolved much quicker!
You no longer have to use your desktop PC as a data repository. Files are automatically stored on the NAS (Network Attached Storage) and backed up to tape nightly. And, for nearly all users, the Supported Platform provides automatic updates to your operating system, antivirus protection, and other key software applications that you need.
