Distance Education Training

Distance Education is a way for the University of Nevada, Reno to reach out to the community via video classrooms. The University encourages faculty to use Distance Education, both to disseminate knowledge and to bring outside educational resources into the classroom for on-campus instruction.

Distance Education services available to faculty teaching credit courses include:

  • Course Development — If Extended Studies approves a credit course for Distance Education, you can qualify for course-development stipends, pay supplements, and other IT support:
    • Design and development of extended syllabi for students
    • Production of multimedia teaching materials
    • Design of interactive teaching methods for distance learning
  • Training Programs — We provide extensive training for faculty to adapt their personal teaching styles for the unique challenges of distance learning. We emphasize helping faculty to maintain a high degree of interactivity, critical thinking, and "human touch," despite the distances separating the teacher from the remote learners.
