Wireless Access on UNR using Windows XP/2000

INSTRUCTIONS

The UNR wireless network is a captive portal page that requires a virtual private network (VPN) to communicate with the Internet. To configure the VPN, follow these instructions.

Automated Method (recommended)

  1. Download and run UNR-WPA.exe to configure the UNR network on Windows XP and 2000.

Manual Method

  1. Click Start/Settings/Control Panel/Network Connections.
  2. Double click New Connection Wizard and click Next.
  3. Select Connect to the network at my workplace and click Next.
  4. Select Virtual Private Network connection and click Next.
  5. Enter the name UNR Wireless as your connection name (under Company Name) and click Next.
  6. Select Do not dial the initial connection and click Next.
  7. Enter wifi.unr.edu as the Host name or IP address and click Next.
  8. Select My use only and click Next.
  9. For ease of use, check the Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop and click Finish.
  10. Double-click your UNR Wireless connection icon.
  11. Enter your NetID (username@unr.edu) and password and press Connect.

At this point you should be connected. If you have problems, please contact the Help Desk at x25000.
