ResHall Linux Configuration
To use a computer running the Linux operationg system in the Residence Hall network, you must configure its network adpater to use DHCP:
- Use linuxconf.
- Start linuxconf, go to Basic Host Information under Networking and Client Tasks.
- Click Adapter 1, and select DHCP.
- Click OK and Apply Changes.
- Finally, reboot.
- Use netcfg (RedHat).
- Start netcfg, then Adapters.
- Click eth0 and click Edit.
- Change it to DHCP and click OK all the way out.
- Finally, reboot.
- Use any of the other various tools, or just type pump at the command line. (Type man pump to get more information on usage.)
Note: Of course you don't have to reboot to have the settings go into effect. You can just take down the Ethernet interface and bring it back up, but it is good to make sure everything goes smoothly on subsequent boots.
- To initiate a connection, open a browser.
- Type your NetID username and password.
