Double-click the
My Network Places
icon on the desktop.
Right-click
Local Area Connection

Click the word
Properties
in the menu.
Make sure
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
is checked.
If it does not exist, click
Install ...
.
Highlight
Protocol
, then click
Add ...
the protocol.
Click
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
to highlight, then click the
Properties
button.
In the
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties
window, select the following:
Obtain an IP address automatically
.
Obtain DNS server address automatically
.
The rest should be set up properly by default. However, the following instructions are provided to confirm proper configuration.
Click the
Advanced
button.
In the
Advanced TCP/IP Settings
window:
On the DNS tab:
Click the radio button labeled
Append primary connection specific DNS suffixes
.
Check
Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix
.
Check
Register this connection's addresses in DNS
.
On the WINS tab:
Click the radio button labeled
Enable LMHOSTS lookup
.
Click the radio button labeled
Use NetBIOS settings from the DHCP server
.
To start a connection:
Start your browser.
Log on using your NetID username and password.
