ResHall Windows XP Configuration

During configuration, your computer may prompt you for the Windows XP CD (disc used to install the Windows XP operating system).

  1. Click Start and click Control Panel, then double-click Network Connections.*

    * If your Start Menu displays Network Connections on the main menu, simply click the icon there.
  2. If any network bridges are listed, right-click the icon and click Delete.
  3. Double-click the Local Area Connection icon
  4. Your Local Area Connection Status window displays.
  5. Click Properties to bring up the Local Area Connection Properties window.

  6. Uncheck all boxes EXCEPT Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

  7. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click Properties to bring up the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
  8. Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically and click OK.

  9. Click OK to close the Connection Properties window.
  10. Click Close to close the Local Area Connection Status window.
  11. To initiate a connection to the Residence Hall network, open a web browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer.
  12. Follow the instructions to register your computer.
