Campus Network
Our Campus Network is the cabling infrastructure for all campus data and telecommunications. Here are some interesting statistics about the network:
- The Campus Network links 77 campus buildings and 5 buildings at remote locations — two at Stead, two at Valley Road, and our new building at the Redfield Campus on Mt. Rose Highway.
- 765 network devices (e.g., switches, routers, and wireless access points) support some 20,000 network ports.
- Connected to these ports are approximately:
- 10,000 University-owned computers, printers, and other networked equipment
- 1,500 student-owned computers in the Residence Halls
- All voice and telecommunications equipment for the campus
- The Network Operations Center (NOC) uses Intermapper software to poll all 765 network devices once per second and display this information on a high-tech, color-coded wall display of 9 monitors. This display keeps all network personnel and both Call Centers (Help Desk and Support Center) informed about what is happening on the Campus Network.
