Wireless Configuration: Palm Tungsten C
NOTE: These directions are for Palm Tungsten C running Palm OS v. 5.2.1. These directions may work for other wireless-enabled Palms and PalmOS-based PDAs, but they have not been tested.
IMPORTANT!! You won't be able to connect unless you read the following information!
- The VPN client shipped with the Tungsten C (Mergic PPTP Version 1.01) does not work with the University's wireless network.
- You must download the most current version from Mergic at http://www.mergic.com. The University does not provide this VPN software. You must purchase this VPN software ($29.99 or upgrade if you have a previous version) to use the University's wireless network.
- After installing this software (see your Palm handbook for installation help), follow the setup process below to configure your Palm for the University's wireless network.
- Again, you cannot connect unless you update the Mergic VPN client.
- Go directly to Step 2: Login with Mergic VPN Client.
- Go to All -> Wi-Fi Setup
- The Palm attempts to find all wireless networks nearby. Click Next.
- The Wifi Setup displays all available wireless networks. You should see the University's wireless network. Select the UNR network and click Next.
- The connection is established and the signal strength displays. Click Done.
You are connected the wireless network! You must now log in using the VPN client.
DO NOT USE THE DEFAULT VPN CLIENT. You must use the 1.1a version or newer as described above
- In the applications window, go to All and double-click Mergic VPN.
- Enter your NetID (as described below) and click Sign in
- Account: Enter unrwifi.
- User Name: Enter your NetID username.
- Password: Click Prompt and enter your NetID password.
- VPN Server Name or Address: Enter wifi.unr.edu.
.
- You are ready to use the University's wireless network.
