PPP Configuration for Windows NT

Please note: Microsoft no longer supports Windows NT as of June 2003. Instructions provided here are not updated once products enter the non-supported phase.

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Services.
    • Scroll through list of services and double-click Remote Access Server .
    • Select Disabled and click OK (window closes) .
  4. On your desktop, double-click My Computer.
  5. Double-click Dial-up Networking icon.
    • If not found, you must install it from the Microsoft website.
  6. Click New to start the Phonebook Entry Wizard:
    • Type UNR in the Name new phonebook entry box and click Next.
    • In the Server window, check all 3 options and click Next.
    • In the Phone Number window, enter the area code (775) and phone number (327-5000) in the appropriate boxes and click Next.
    • In the Serial Line Protocol window, select Point-to-Point Protocol and click Next.
    • In the Login Script window, select Use a terminal window and click Next.
    • In the IP Address window, check that My IP Address reads 0.0.0.0 and click Next.
    • In the Name Server Addresses window, type 134.197.5.1 in the DNS Server boxand click Next.
    • Click Finish to exit the Phonebook Entry Wizard.
  7. The Dial-Up Networking screen displays.
    • Click More and select Edit Entry and Modem Properties.
    • On the Edit Phonebook Entry screen, select the Server tab and check the TCP/IP box.
    • Click TCP/IP Settings/DNS Configuration tab.
    • In the DNS Server Search Order box, enter 134.197.6.1 and click Add.
    • In the Domain Suffix Search Order box, type unr.edu and click Add, then type scs.unr.edu and click Add.
    • Click OK until complete.
  8. Return to the PPP Configuration Instructions for information on installing a browser and starting a connection.
