PPP Configuration for Windows Vista
To configure Windows Vista for University of Nevada, Reno PPP dial-up access:
- Go to Start and click the Network button.
- Under the Network and internet screen , click Network and Sharing Center.

Select Set up a connection or network.
- Select Connect to a workplace...
- Select Dial directly.

As shown below, type the Telephone number: 327-8500, then type the Destination name: UNR PPP.
Click to checkmark the option Don't connect now;just set it up so I can connect later, and then click Next.
(NOTE: You are responsible for any long-distance calls to the University modem bank. If you have to add a "1" or a different area code to the number, you may be dialing long distance.)

- Enter your personal NetID user name, including the suffix @unr.edu.
- Then, type in your password.
- Click the Create button.

- When the following screen displays, click the Close button.

- Back at the Network and Sharing Center screen, select Manage network connections.
- You should now see an icon labled UNR PPP.
- Right-click once on the icon to bring up the following menu and click Properties.

- In the PPP Properties screen (below),
click the Options tab,
and click OFF checkmarks for Prompt for... and the Include Windows... Dialing Options.
- Do NOT click the OK button yet.

- Next, click the Security tab in the PPP Properties screen and click to check the option Show terminal window.
- Do NOT click the OK button yet.

- On the Networking tab in the PPP Properties screen,
we advise that you UNCHECK the File and Printer Sharing... service, but that is not necessary.
- Click to select Internet Protocol Version 4, then click the Properties button just below.

- In the Internet Protocol Version 4... screen (below), select Use the following DNS server addresses, and enter: 134.197.5.1
- Click the OK button.

- Click OK on the remaining screen.
- Now, you should be back at the Network Connections screen. To create a shortcut of this connection, right-click on the UNR PPP icon (hold down the mouse button) and drag that icon to the desktop and then release the button.
- Then click the option to Create Shortcuts Here.

- Close all remaining screens.
- Now you can connect by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
- Follow the rest of the PC login instructions.
