ResHall Windows 98/Me Configuration

NOTE: Win 98/Me factory default settings for TCP/IP are the correct settings for ResHall internet access. These instructions are provided ONLY if your TCP/IP settings have been changed from factory default.

  1. From the Windows desktop, go to START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL.
  2. Open the NETWORK icon.
  3. In the dialog box, find the TCP/IP* settings associated with your Ethernet network card.
  4. Click the TCP/IP settings once to highlight it. Then select the PROPERTIES button.
  5. In the TCP/IP properties dialog box, click the bullet next to "Obtain an IP address automatically."
  6. Select the GATEWAY tab sheet.
  7. Highlight and REMOVE all "Installed gateway" IP numbers.
  8. Select the DNS Configuration tab sheet.
  9. Click the bullet next to "Disable DNS."
  10. Click OK.
  11. Allow Windows to restart your computer. When it asks, click Yes (default = [YES]).

If your computer does not have the TCP/IP protocol installed:

  1. From the Windows desktop, go to START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL.
  2. Open the NETWORK icon.
  3. In the NETWORK dialog box, click the ADD button.
  4. Highlight PROTOCOL by clicking it once.
  5. Select the ADD... button to the right.
  6. Highlight MICROSOFT in the left portion of the dialog box.
  7. Highlight TCP/IP in the right portion of the dialog box.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Allow Windows to restart your computer. When it asks, click Yes (default = [YES]).

To start a connection:

  1. Start your browser.
  2. Log on using your NetID username and password.
