ResHall WinNT 4.0 Configuration
NOTE: Win NT factory default settings for TCP/IP are the correct settings for ResHall internet access. These instructions are provided ONLY if your TCP/IP settings have been changed from factory default.
- From the Windows desktop, go to START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL.
- Select the PROTOCOLS tab sheet.
- In the NETWORK dialog box, find the TCP/IP settings associated with your Ethernet network card.
- Click the TCP/IP settings once to highlight it. Then click the PROPERTIES button.
- Select the IP ADDRESS tab sheet.
- In the TCP/IP properties dialog box, click the bullet next to "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server."
- Select the DNS tab sheet.
- Remove all items from the Host, Domain, DNS Service Search Order, and Domain Suffix Search Order.
- Select the WINS ADDRESS tab sheet.
- Remove all IP numbers from the Primary and Secondary WINS server fields.
- Select the DHCP RELAY tab sheet.
- Remove all listed DHCP Servers.
- Select the ROUTING tab sheet.
- Uncheck Enable IP Forwarding.
- Click OK.
- Allow Windows to restart your computer. When it asks, click Yes (default = [YES]).
If your computer does not have the TCP/IP protocol installed:
- From the Windows desktop, go to START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL.
- Open the NETWORK icon.
- Select the PROTOCOLS tab sheet.
- Click Add.
- Highlight TCP/IP Protocol.
- Click OK.
- Allow Windows to restart your computer. When it asks, click Yes (default = [YES]).
To start a connection:
- Start your browser.
- Log on using your NetID username and password.
