ResHall WinNT 4.0 Configuration

NOTE: Win NT factory default settings for TCP/IP are the correct settings for ResHall internet access. These instructions are provided ONLY if your TCP/IP settings have been changed from factory default.

  1. From the Windows desktop, go to START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL.
  2. Select the PROTOCOLS tab sheet.
  3. In the NETWORK dialog box, find the TCP/IP settings associated with your Ethernet network card.
  4. Click the TCP/IP settings once to highlight it. Then click the PROPERTIES button.
  5. Select the IP ADDRESS tab sheet.
  6. In the TCP/IP properties dialog box, click the bullet next to "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server."
  7. Select the DNS tab sheet.
    • Remove all items from the Host, Domain, DNS Service Search Order, and Domain Suffix Search Order.
  8. Select the WINS ADDRESS tab sheet.
    • Remove all IP numbers from the Primary and Secondary WINS server fields.
  9. Select the DHCP RELAY tab sheet.
    • Remove all listed DHCP Servers.
  10. Select the ROUTING tab sheet.
    • Uncheck Enable IP Forwarding.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Allow Windows to restart your computer. When it asks, click Yes (default = [YES]).

If your computer does not have the TCP/IP protocol installed:

  1. From the Windows desktop, go to START/SETTINGS/CONTROL PANEL.
  2. Open the NETWORK icon.
  3. Select the PROTOCOLS tab sheet.
  4. Click Add.
  5. Highlight TCP/IP Protocol.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Allow Windows to restart your computer. When it asks, click Yes (default = [YES]).

To start a connection:

  1. Start your browser.
  2. Log on using your NetID username and password.
