In Spring 2008, UNR deployed a new wireless network based on Aruba equipment. The following is an overview of the three networks we offer and a description of each.
This network is recommended for all students and faculty. It uses the most recent wireless standards, WPA/TKIP or WPA2/AES along with Protected EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol), a method to securely transmit passwords.
This network provides backward compatibility with the previous UNR wireless network. It takes the user to a special login web page for authentication onto a virtual private network (VPN) that allows you to communicate with the Internet.
This network provides unencrypted access to allow web browsing and VPN access for guest users. It is not recommended for day-to-day network activity. For guest access, please contact the Help Desk at 682-5000.
The following are configuration instructions for handheld devices and testing information on the signal strength of five wireless cards. (Please Note: At this time, these handheld instructions are valid for the UNR network, but not for WolfNet.)
Wireless access to the Internet is available in 34 campus buildings and 4 outdoor areas.
