Setting Up Wireless Access for Windows Vista

  1. Add the UNR wireless access point to your wireless network list. To do this:
      • Click Start
      • From the menu that appears, click the Network button (as shown below)

  2. From the Network screen, click the Network and Sharing Center button.

  1. In the "Network and Sharing Center" screen, select Manage wireless networks.

  1. In the "Manage Wireless Networks" screen, click the Add button.

  1. Click the first option of Add a network....

  1. Click the network listed as "UNR". Then, click the Connect button.

  1. At the warning screen, click Connect Anyway...

  1. At the confirmation screen, checkmark the 2 options shown below, and click the Close button.

  1. Now, to set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to login to the UNR wireless network, click back on to the "Network and Sharing Center" screen and select Set up a connection....

  1. At the new screen that displays, click Connect to a workplace (last option) and Next.

  1. Choose No, create a new connection and Next.

  1. Choose Use my Internet connection (VPN)

  1. Choose Let me decide later and click Next.

  1. At the connection screen:
    • Type "wifi.unr.edu" in the Internet address field
    • Type "UNR wifi VPN" into the Destination name field.
    • Checkmark the option Don't connect now...
    • Click Next.

  2. Type your NetID user name (with @unr.edu) and password.
    • Do not fill in the domain field
    • Click Create
  3. Click Close.
  4. Click back to the "Network and Sharing Center" and select Manage network connections.

  1. From the list of networks, right-click on UNR wifi VPN, and from the menu, click Properties.

  1. From the "UNR with VPN Properties" screen, click the Security tab and delete the check from Require data encryption... option.

  1. On the same screen, click the Networking tab:
    • Select Client for Microsoft Networks by clicking once on the word "Microsoft"
    • Click the Properties button
  1. On the Properties screen, click the drop-down arrow under Name service provider and select Windows Locator. Click OK.

  1. Close all other open screens.
  2. Login to the UNR wireless network by clicking Start and Connect To.

  1. Choose the UNR wifi VPN connection and click Connect. Login and enjoy!
