ResHall Windows XP Configuration

During configuration, your computer may prompt you for the Windows XP CD (disc used to install the Windows XP operating system).

  1. Click Start button, select Control Panel.  Locate and double-click Network Connections.*

    * If your Start Menu displays Network Connections on the main menu, click the icon there.
  2. Delete and listed network bridges.  Right-click the bridge icon and click Delete.
  3. Double-click the Local Area Connection icon.
  4. On the Local Area Connection Status window, click Properties.

  5. Uncheck all boxes EXCEPT Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).  (Increases security of the machine within the ResHall network by limiting unauthorized access.)

  6. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) selection.  Click Properties to bring up the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
  7. Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically and click OK.

  8. Click OK to close the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
  9. Click Close to close the Local Area Connection Status window.
  10. To initiate a connection to the Residence Hall network, open a web browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer.
